Q: WHAT IS YOUR LIFE YOUR CHOICE?
A: Launched in September 2012, Your Life Your Choice is the Queensland Government’s approach to self-directed support for people with a disability.
Under Your Life Your Choice, you can plan, purchase and manage your disability support and services by either working with a host provider such as Me Time or receiving funding directly from Disability Services into your bank account.
If you choose to receive direct payments into your bank account, you have the control to plan, organise and buy disability supports and services to meet your individual needs. However, you also take on the responsibility for planning, administering and managing these payments, including reporting back to Disability Services on what you have bought.
Q: WHAT IS SELF-DIRECTED DISABILITY SUPPORT?
A: Self-directed disability support is an initiative that allows people and their families to have greater choice and control over the disability services they receive. You can choose between the Your Life Your Choice self-directed support and a traditional model.
Q: WHAT DOES THIS NEW APPROACH MEAN TO ME?
A: Your Life Your Choice offers exactly that – more choice in how disability funding works for you. It gives you more say in finding the best pathways to achieving your goals. You can choose to make no change to your existing support arrangements, to gain greater control by using the services of a host provider such as Me Time, or opt to self-manage all of your disability support funding.
Q: WHAT IS A HOST PROVIDER?
A: Host providers work closely with people with disabilities, their families and carers to develop and implement strategies to meet their disability support needs. Providers take responsibility for quarterly reporting to the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services, which is a requirement of the Your Life Your Choice program. Host providers such as Me Time require endorsement by the Queensland Government.
Q: How do I choose the right provider for me?
A: A host provider receives your funds from Disability Services and works with you on how they are spent so it is important to choose a provider that is a good fit for your needs. At Me Time, we outline exactly what is involved in using our services, including the both the costs and the services we will be providing.
Q: What does the service cost?
A: The cost of using a host provider will usually depend on the extent to which you intend to self-manage your funding. Me Time charges an establishment fee and an ongoing percentage of the funds you receive. We take the administrative burden of self-directed support off your hands so you can spend more time making the most of your life.
